DCRS Straw Bale Course in progress - building the example house in our workshops.
A two day course of theory and practical building in our indoor work
area learning the techniques and practice of building with straw bales. During
the two days the following topics will be covered:
- History of bale building
- Advantages and disadvantages
of straw bales as a building material
- Local authority Planning and
Building Control implications
- Environmental impact
- Costs
- Current straw bale building
practice and recent innovations
- Planning your project
- Foundations
- Walls
- Roofing
- Finishing options
- Maintenance
There are a maximum of 12 places
on the course with DCRS director and tutor Rob Buckley. Rob has
been building sustainable new builds and renovating older properties
for 25 years with his building companies BBI and DCRS Construction Ltd.
As this is a small class, any
particular aspect of building with straw bales or personal projects can
be discussed during the course.
