Pottery

The eight week course will take you through the all the processes of pottery, and you will end the course with your own selection of pots.  You will learn how to preparing the clay, to throw pots on the wheel, turning, making handles and glazing. The tutor will fire all pots for the students, but will explain the different drying and firing stages to students.  Coil pots will also be made.  

About half of our students decide to continue with pottery, and sign up to further eight weeks at a time.  Some of our pottery students have been attending classes for up to two years, some concentrating on throwing pots and others on modeling or both.   Many of these students are working the pottery studio like their own, producing high quality pieces but with help from the tutor only as and  when they need it.

Classes are held in our fully equipped pottery studio with experienced tutor Simon Case in classes of no more than six students.

Pottery Party

'Local ceramicist, Vanessa Conyers, is availble throughout the summer to hold Pottery Parties at DCRS.  All party animals have the opportunity to get messy on the potter's wheel and decorate their own work, this is then glazed and fired and returned the party host within 3 weeks. 

The Birthday Boy or Girl also receives a special pottery present from Vanessa to mark their special day.

It is worth noting that Pottery Parties are suitable for adults too!

Pottery Party cost

£15 per head plus a booking fee of £30.  This includes all materials and firings.
