Blacksmithing

Blacksmithing students at work
Be a blacksmith for the day!
Spend a day
in a fully equipped forge learning about the workshop and practicing
basic blacksmithing techniques. After covering health and safety
procedures in the forge you will be shown the tools, equipment and how
to light and use the forge. You will cover basic metallurgy; iron,
steel and non-ferrous, work the metal at different temperatures and will learn how to judge the heat of the metal by its colour. Work on an anvil and swage block, learn pointing, curling
and forge welding.
You will spend the morning practicing these techniques
and in the afternoon put these processes together
to create your own forged metal work to take home.
There are only four places on each course,
allowing you to progress at your own pace and work with our blacksmith,
Salt. Please note this is a very physical course and participants should be reasonably fit.
Salt has run his own workshop and forge, and displayed work
in many galleries and several exhibitions.
Blacksmithing day cost
£95.00 including materials
